I Regret It Every Day Since We Split

It has been thirty days since we split, and I have regretted it every single day since.

That is the first sentence I have been able to write honestly. For the first two weeks I told everyone I was fine, and for the first two weeks I almost believed it. I told myself we were wrong for each other, that it was better this way, that I would get over it. Then the third week came and the excuses ran out.

I keep replaying the night you walked out. Not because I want to — because it is the only night that matters. I was angry about something small, and instead of talking about it, I let my pride do the talking. I said things I did not mean, and I said them loudly, like volume could win an argument. By the time I understood what I had done, you were gone, and the door had closed in a way I have not been able to reopen.

I am not writing this to beg. I know sorry is not enough, and I know you have heard it before. I am writing this because thirty days of silence is worse than any conversation, and because I could not let another day pass without someone, somewhere, saying it plainly: I was wrong. I hurt you, and I have no excuse for it.

If there is ever a chance to talk, I will be ready to listen. Not to argue, not to explain myself away — to listen. I do not expect anything from you. I only wanted you to know that I know what I did, and that I am not hiding from it anymore.
